Antique hame bell strap -- 3XL bell (2 3/8-2 1/2 in.)

Hame bells are traditionally buckled onto the hames (part of the neck collar) of a draft horse. In their alter ego as "bear bells", these bells can be used by hikers, trail riders, and hunters to warn off bears, deer, turkeys, and other wildlife.

A hame bell is also nice for Santa's use. It can be rung like a "teacher's bell" to announce Santa's arrival, then slip neatly into Santa's pocket or bag.

We handpick the bells for these hame straps, choosing bells primarily for excellent sound and then for very good to excellent appearance. Even though they are the best of the best, large antique bells will have visual flaws -- casting defects, hairline cracks, scratches, etc. If you are expecting a visually perfect bell, you will happier with our smaller antique bells or new bells.

Several bell styles are available in this size, including the Swedish traditional bell shown. This strap is available in dark brown (shown), black, and medium brown. View colors... Click "Enlarge" to see this hame bell in relation to the other sizes we offer.

Overall length of this piece is about 7 1/2 inches long when buckled as shown. Strap is 7/8 inches wide and about 18 inches long when unbuckled. No hanging ring.

Note: We advise against using a hame bell on a door. Because there is no protective leather between bell and door, the swinging bell may make dents or scratches.
