Laced strap with 27 graduated bells

This 27-bell strap has bells ranging from #1 (1 1/8") bells at the ends to a #10 (2 1/4") bell in the middle. The bells date to the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The lining strap and bell strap are laced together. This style was used on some bell straps made in the early to mid 1800s. The advantage is the liner is held more securely to the bell strap than with the more common "keeper loop" style.

The bell strap is 1 1/2" wide and 7 feet 2 inches long from buckle to buckle. The strap is tapered at each end to fit the 1 1/4" buckles.

Billets of different lengths can be buckled onto this "double buckle" bell strap to fit a variety of different horses and vehicles.
