Each of these dark-brown straps holds 18 "round ridge" bells from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Each strap is about 50 inches long from buckle to tip and 1 1/4 inch wide.
The owner supplied brass plates; each one is engraved with the last name of the recipient. I riveted the plates to the buckle ends of the straps. The metal plate stiffens the strap which is not good for a strap used on horses, but is fine on a bell strap meant for display only.
Keeper loops spaced about four bells apart hold the bell strap and lining strap together. This wide spacing between keepers is a detail taken from the owner's original straps and is typical of straps with smaller bells like these.
