Laced strap with 25 graduated bells

This 25-bell strap is made to fit a stocky Norwegian Fjord mare.

There are eleven #4 (1 1/2") bells at either end and a pair of #6 (1 3/4") bells and one #8 (2") bell in the middle. The bells date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. They were all cleaned, polished, and lacquered.

The medium brown lining strap and bell strap are laced together. The finished piece is 1 1/2" wide and 57 inches long from buckle to buckle. The solid brass buckles are 7/8" wide.

A billet will be buckled onto this "double buckle" bell strap to complete the piece. Different length billets can be made so the bell strap can fit a variety of horses.

We also made a narrow buckled "hobble" strap. It will be used to fasten the bell strap to the saddle or harness. If the horse puts her head down, the hobble strap will prevent the bell strap from sliding down her neck.
