A client sent 14 antique "petal" bells ranging in size from a #5 (1 5/8") to #11 (2 3/8"). The owner wanted the bells cleaned and polished, divided into two roughly equal groups, and each group put on a laced-style display strap with optional top buckle and bottom ring.
The owner was concerned that a few of his bells were cracked and wondered if the damaged bells should be removed or replaced. In my opinion, as long as the damaged bells are visually appealing and if strap is for display only (rather than be used on a horse), it is fine to reuse damaged bells on a new strap.
Click "See more images" to see images of the owner's damaged bells after they were polished and installed on their new strap. I think they blend in with the intact bells and look right at home.
Each dark brown strap is 27" long and 2" wide. The top ring adds about 3" to this length.
