Keeper-loop martingale with 3 open-mouth bells

This simple neck strap attaches to a stylish carriage harness for an elegant Belgian-Standardbred mare. The nickel-plated bells probably date to the late 1800s or early 1900s.

The snaps on the two short straps clip to the rings on the lower end of the hames. The loop on the end of the longer strap slips over the girth of the harness.

The three open-mouth bells on the strap must hang down to ring properly, which is why they are on the lower end of the long strap. This strap should be adjusted so the bells hang between the horse's front legs.

Sleigh bells can be substituted for the open bells, in which case the location of the bells along the strap is less important.
