Laced strap with 21 graduated bells

All but two of the petal-design bells on this strap come from one original strap probably made in the mid to late 1800s. We replaced two missing bells with similar bells from our inventory.

The 21 petal-design bells graduate by 1/8ths of an inch from a #1 (1 1/8" in diameter) to a #11 (2 3/8") and back down to a #1.

The liner is laced onto the main bell strap. This style was used on some bell straps made in the early to mid 1800s. The advantage is the liner is held more securely to the bell strap than with the more common "keeper loop" style.

This strap has a buckle at both ends. A separate billet buckles onto the main strap to hold it onto the horse. Several billets can be used with the bell strap to fit different horses and vehicles. The strap can also be made like a trouser belt, with a buckle at one end and a billet (tongue) at the other.

The strap is 1 1/2" wide and about 6 feet long. It will fit a standard- to draft-sized horse with billets cut to the appropriate lengths.
