The owner of this strap of bells works for the Budweiser Company. He wanted the bells put on a neck strap that could be modeled by one of the handsome Budweiser Clydesdales when the horses visited his distribution facility.
The bells on this strap had been collected over the years by the owner and his father. There are 29 bells: 14 #2 petal bells; two each #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #10 petal bells; and one 2 3/8" open-mouth bell. The petal bells were arranged in decreasing size on either side of the open-mouth bell.
There is a solid-brass buckle at each end of this black bridle-leather strap. These buckles allow a separate billet to be buckled onto the bell strap. The owner can use the bell strap on a wider variety of horses and vehicles by simply changing the billet.
In this case, we were not absolutely sure how long the strap needed to be to fit the horse, and the double-buckle design gave us the flexibility we needed. We sent a shorter billet cut to the length we thought should work. We also sent a longer billet as insurance, just in case our calculations were wrong. (The shorter billet was the right one, by the way!)
