Dance bells IV

Our customers are not limited to people who collect bells or use bells on horses. Bells are sometimes featured in dance, theatrical, and religious performances or in sculpture and other art.

Some Native American dancers prefer narrow straps of bells like ones featured here. Each strap will be wrapped around the leg just below the knee and fastened with ties. Each medium-brown strap is 24 inches long and 7/8 inch wide with soft but sturdy leather laces at both ends. I cut the laces extra long, so the owner can trim them to his preferred length.

The gap between the fourth and fifth bells on each strap leaves room for the leather strap to cross over itself. The strap can easily fit a small child to a large adult by adjusting the amount of overlap. This design is not limited to being worn below the knee as these straps will be used. The strap could be wrapped around the ankle or even the waist or arm.

The bells are antique "petal" bells from the late 1800s. They are about 1 1/4 inches across. The bells have been cleaned and polished, but not lacquered. The owner will periodically hand-polish the bells to keep them looking bright.
