Team bells

These open (liberty) bells are "team bells" intended to be worn by a horse. The strap of bells is fastened to the horse by clipping the ends of the strap to the horse's collar or neck yoke. If there are two or more horses in the hitch, each horse in the team would usually wear a set of bells.

I restored two sets of these team bells for an Ohio client (only one is shown in the photos). Each strap is made of heavy, stiff leather with three open bells in the middle and heavy snaps at both ends. Conway fasteners at the ends of the strap allow some adjustment for length.
