Unlined strap with 42 small bells

The 42 "band" bells on this neck strap make a cheerful, bright sound. The bells are #1 size (1 1/8" diameter) and date from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

The black, unlined strap is about 60" long and 1 1/8" wide, sized to fit a medium-sized horse. The stitched ends of the strap are narrowed slightly to fit the 7/8" wide brass buckles. A separate billet (short strap with holes) fastens onto the buckles to complete the piece.

Because this bell strap will be used on a driving horse rather than just be displayed, we made a few more parts for this project than we normally do for a display piece.

The owner can choose from 3 billets with varying lengths to get a perfect fit around her horse's collar. She can also buckle on a separate "hobble strap" to fasten the bells securely to the colla
